Cop radios a 'major disability', royal commission hears

19 May 2009 - Shadow Police and Emergency Services Minister Andrew McIntosh said today that leaked documents showed Victoria Police identified problems with the State Mobile Radio System in August last year.

ACMA adopts flying-squad approach

18 May 2009 - THE federal Government has ordered the closure of Australian Communications & Media Authority offices in Perth and Adelaide, with the expected loss of 13 jobs. The move to shut the offices was revealed in last week's federal budget.

Bid to boost fire warning system ignored

26 April 2009 - THE State Government ignored Victoria Police's requests to upgrade the state's ailing emergency communications systems — parts of which failed during Black Saturday's bushfires — despite warnings that the community could be put at risk, leaked documents show.

Govt urged to fund regional police radio upgrade
19 Febuary 2009 - The Western Australian Opposition has called on the State Government to commit to funding an upgrade of the police radio network in country areas. Currently the regions rely on analogue radio towers which the Opposition claims are more than 20-years-old and suffer continual breakdowns.
